The match-fixing controversy took a dramatic turn when a Doordarshan television programme Aaj Tak reported that Manoj Prabhakar, who named Kapil Dev as the one who made him the dubious offer to underperform, possesses taped conversations with BCCI secretary Jaywant Lele, Former Indian team physiotherapist Ali Irani, former team manager Ajit Wadekar, former Test player-turned-commentator Ravi Shastri and another ex-Test player Navjot Singh Sidhu. Aired in a dramatised form, the conversations seemed to indicate that Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin, Ajay Jadeja and Kapil Dev were all involved in match-fixing. The text of the dramatised versions on Aaj Tak follows : Between Prabhakar and Lele: Lele: There are total three people, Mohammad Azharuddin, Ajay Jadeja and Kapil Dev. If not Jadeja, this is Kapil's game. But I don't have any proof. Prabhakar: Why, then, did you make Kapil the coach? Lele: It was a big mistake. I swear on my wife that I had told Jagmohan Dalmiya about it. And I told Dalmiya t ...
For Sachin Tendulkar, an ideal coach is like a friend to the players and it makes no difference if he is an Indian or a foreigner since it only his performance that matters. A day after his retirement, Tendulkar addressed the press in Mumbai on Sunday. "I don't think it is about whether it is a foreign coach or an Indian coach. It's more about how consistently one can bring about results. A proper coach is one who understands the players and is more like a friend," Tendulkar said in his first interaction with media as a retired cricketer. "We all know how to play the cover drive but when you have a technical problem, one should be able to sit and sort out with the coach. It's what you put between those two ears," Tendulkar replied to a question on whether he preferred foreign or Indian coaches. In 24 years, Tendulkar has played under managership of Bishan Singh Bedi, Abbas Ali Baig, Ajit Wadekar, Sandeep Patil, Anshuman Gaekwad, John Wright, Greg Chappell, Chandu Borde, Lalchand Rajput, Gary Kirsten and D ...

Last time I played cricket before yesterday was 48 years ago. At that time India never won but we were still happy listening to India play. Indian spinners (Bedi, Prasanna, Venkat, Chandra) were good, but we rarely won. However they were still considered world class. Why? Where was the media? Indian tailenders did not bat at all but we still did not think they should be removed from the team for not fielding or batting. It was not their job. T20 was possibly a figment of imagination in a science fiction writer’s mind All test matches would end in a draw. No match referee, no review system, and umpires were free to be biased towards the home team Ajit Wadekar, Pataudi were considered world class captains? Why? Madan Lal was considered a good fast bowler. Why? His name was once mis-spelt as Madam Lal. And he definitely did not study Physics and understand momentum. His run up was long but before delivering the ball he would do a high jump, land, think on what he should do, re-think, rotate his arm and th ...

Mahendra Singh Dhoni's "tactical errors" and the poor form of some senior players were the main reasons for India's early exit from the World Twenty20, according to former cricketers who said that there was no need for making drastic changes in the team despite the debacle. While Dhoni came under fire for some of his "tactical blunders", some former cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar were not in favour of changing the captain or making too many changes in the team. India failed to qualify for the semifinals of World Twenty20 on net run rate and former cricketers said the team's repeated failures in this format should be analysed and corrective measures should be taken. Former Indian captains like Gavaskar, Anil Kumble, Dilip Vengsarkar and Ajit Wadekar and a host of other ex-cricketers felt that a combination of factors led to India's ouster from the World T20. Some of Dhoni's decisions also evoked criticism from the former players. "Indian cricket is now at the crossroads. We have not been able to do well in ...
Dravid wins Test player of the year award The Castrol awards for cricketing excellence honoured men as diverse as Ajit Wadekar, who bagged the lifetime achievement award, and Unmukt Chand, who topped the ‘Junior cricketer’ category. Strangely, the biggest award winner Indian cricketer of the year M.S. Dhoni, was conspicuous by his absence. Another absentee was special awardee Yuvraj Singh. Rahul Dravid walked away with the Test-cricketer-of-the-year award, while the limited-over category honours went to Suresh Raina and Sachin Tendulkar took the batsman-of-the-year trophy. There was also a warm passing of the baton moment as the great E.A.S. Prasanna handed over the best bowler award to R. Ashwin. Other awards: Performance in the World Cup: Yuvraj Singh; 100th hundred: Tendulkar; Extraordinary double century in ODIs: Virender Sehwag; Performance under pressure: Gautam Gambhir (World Cup final); Stand-out performance under pressure: Virat Kohli.
