The Filthy 13, a sub-unit of the 101st was led by Jake McNiece. He was part Choctow (Native-American) and their story inspired the movie "The Dirty Dozen". Their appearance led the Nazi's to "warn" the French and Dutch people that "America released its convicts". I copied directly from the book's information: Since World War II, the American public has become fully aware of the exploits of the 101st Airborne Division, the paratroopers who led the Allied invasions into Nazi-held Europe. But within the ranks of the 101st, a sub-unit attained legendary status at the time, its reputation persisting among veterans over the decades. Primarily products of the Dustbowl and the Depression, the Filthy 13 grew notorious, even within the ranks of the elite 101st. Never ones to salute an officer, or take a bath, this squad became singular within the Screaming Eagles for its hard drinking, and savage fighting skill-and that was only in training. Just prior to the invasion of Normandy, a "Stars and Stripes" photographe ...

The New Year gift from President Barack Obama to Israel and the Middle East is a billionaire fund for the establishment of an Iraqi army as a division of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC). This Wednesday, the last day of 2014, two ministers of Defence, Brigadier General of Iran, Hossein Dehqani and Iraq Khallid al-Obeidi, signed a pact for Iran, ie, the IRGC, "shall continue to serve on the new Iraqi military units "to replace the army collapsed under the attack by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant since last June. "We see no other option that cooperation and be on the same side as Iran to root out terrorists," said the Iraqi general. But he carefully avoided mentioning the 1,850 US soldiers in Baghdad, Erbil in Kurdistan and Asad air base in western Anbar province, or 1,300 additional American soldiers, including paratroopers of the Third Brigade of the 82nd Airborne Division elite combat. Therefore, the 3,150 US troops currently serving in Iraq are sharing the task of rebuilding the Iraqi m ...

The 82nd Airborne Division's All-American Chorus visited Team Redstone and Huntsville City Schools last week -- in case you missed them, they left us with this Holiday message, from Fort Bragg, N.C. to Huntsville, Alabama! Enjoy!
You Must Read This Poem, it strikes at the heart of our docile society, The Sheepdogs Most humans truly are like sheep Wanting nothing more than peace to keep To graze, grow fat and raise their young, Sweet taste of clover on the tongue. Their lives serene upon Life’s farm, They sense no threat nor fear no harm. On verdant meadows, they forage free With naught to fear, with naught to flee. They pay their sheepdogs little heed For there is no threat; there is no need. To the flock, sheepdog’s are mysteries, Roaming watchful round the peripheries. These fang-toothed creatures bark, they roar With the fetid reek of the carnivore, Too like the wolf of legends told, To be amongst our docile fold. Who needs sheepdogs? What good are they? They have no use, not in this day. Lock them away, out of our sight We have no need of their fierce might. But sudden in their midst a beast Has come to kill, has come to feast The wolves attack; they give no warning Upon that calm September morning They slash and kill with ...
GENERAL McAULIFFE’S CHRISTMAS MESSAGE — 1944 Headquarters, 101st Airborne Division Office of the Division Commander 24 December 1944 What’s Merry about all this, you ask? We’re fighting – it’s cold – we aren’t home. All true, but what has the proud Eagle Division accomplished with its worthy comrades of the 10th Armored Division, the 705th Tank Destroyer Battalion and all the rest? Just this: We have stopped cold everything that has been thrown at us from the North, East, South, and West. We have identifications from four German Panzer Divisions, two German Infantry Divisions, and one German Parachute Division. These units, spearheading, the last disparate German image, were headed straight west for key points when the Eagle Division was hurriedly ordered to stop the advance. How effectively this was done will be in history’s not alone in the Division’s glorious history but in the World history. The Germans actually did surround us, their radios blared our doom. Their commander demande ...

The Greatest Generations Foundation Today In History: US Commander in Bastogne : “NUTS” to Surrender In the town of Bastogne the 101st Airborne Division was dug in fighting a determined stand against an increasingly frustrated German spearhead. The Americans had identified elements of four Panzer Divisions, two Infantry Divisions and two Parachute Divisions amongst the forces surrounding them. December 22 1944 To the U.S.A. Commander of the encircled town of Bastogne The fortune of war is changing. This time the the U.S.A. forces in and near Bastogne have been encircled by strong German armored units. There is only one possibility to save the encircled U.S.A. Troops from total annihilation: that is the honorable surrender of the encircled town. In order to think it over a term of two hours will be granted beginning with the presentation of this note. If this proposal should be rejected the German Artillery Corps and six heavy A.A. Battalions are ready to annihilate the USA troops in and near Bastogne. ...

He won’t be buried in Arlington National Cemetery or in Normandy or in any other military cemetery anywhere. He will be cremated and his ashes dropped from a plane above his beloved Northern California in January of next year. Ken loved to fly. It’s also somewhat fitting that this paratrooper should make one more jump and landing. It was the one he made on June 6, 1944 that defined his life and helped instill in him the courage and compassion to be the man he was following war’s end. Unlike many of his fellow members of the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, Ken Moore wasn’t in Normandy on D-Day to kill Germans. He was there to save lives. Ken was a medic and ...

This is my personal tribute and remembrance of my Father, PFC Kenneth William Brush, Sr., and his "Band of Brothers" on these days 70 years ago. They were known as The Angels. My Father was only 19 years old and celebrating his 20th birthday in the Leyte Jungle Mountains on 17 December 1944. Selections are from: THE ANGELS: A History of the 11th Airborne Division Chapter 6: Leyte: 6 to 11 December 1944 According to the periodic report for 18 November 1944, THE ANGELS of the 11th Airborne Division joined the King II Operation, as the Battle for Leyte Island was called, by landing on Bito Beach. The report concerns itself with Japanese opposition only, and, except for the brief word “RAIN” does not mention the snarling, handicapping opposition of the weather. It was snarling the day we landed, and continued to rain almost every day thereafter during the Leyte Campaign. On 22 November 1944, four days after their arrival, they received Field Order No. 28 from XXIV Corps; and it had one momentous sente ...
President Barack Obama will nominate former senior Pentagon official Ashton Carter on Friday to replace Chuck Hagel as defense secretary, the White House said. Carter is expected to win Senate confirmation easily in 2015. A White House official said on condition of anonymity that Hagel will join Obama to announce Carter’s nomination. The nomination ceremony, set for 10 a.m. ET, will cap an awkward process during which several high-profile potential candidates took themselves out of contention for what may be the worst — or at least the most challenging — job in the federal government. Democratic Sen. Jack Reed of Rhode Island, a former officer in the Army’s storied 82nd Airborne Division, released a statement saying he did not want the job even before reports of Hagel’s departure had been confirmed. Michèle Flournoy, a former senior Pentagon official who could be tapped to run the de ...

The commander of the 101st Airborne Division said soldiers deployed to West Africa to build Ebola treatment centers are taking multiple precautions to avoid contracting the virus.
Here is my Mother in her nursing uniform. She was part of the Anzio, Italy invasion in January of 1944 as part of World War II. Also included a pic of a later photo around 2007 at one of her birthday parties with her kids and grandkids. During the early morning hours of 22 January 1944, troops of the Fifth Army swarmed ashore on a fifteen-mile stretch of Italian beach near the prewar resort towns of Anzio and Nettuno. The landings were carried out so flawlessly and German resistance was so light that British and American units gained their first day's objectives by noon, moving three to four miles inland by nightfall. The ease of the landing and the swift advance were noted by one paratrooper of the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, who recalled that D-day at Anzio was sunny and warm, making it very hard to believe that a war was going on and that he was in the middle of it. The location of the Allied landings, thirty miles south of Rome and fifty-five miles northwest of the ma ...

Statement from Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Admiral John Kirby on the Change of Responsibility for Operation United Assistance Today in Monrovia, Liberia, Major General Gary Volesky of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) assumed command of Joint Forces Command - Operation United Assistance and the fight against Ebola in West Africa. Just 38 days ago, Major General Darryl Williams arrived in Liberia to form an advance detachment in his capacity as Commanding General, U.S. Army Africa prior to the formal establishment of this Joint Forces Command. In this short period, our service members, under his leadership, have made great advances in establishing command and control capabilities for this effort including lines of communication over very rough terrain.
What an enjoyment flying from NYC to Orlando this week. It was a clear day and I flew over so many places that had an influence on my life. Such as Langley AFB in Virginia where I flew the F-15; Greenville, NC, home of East Carolina University where I got my undergraduate degree; Ft Bragg, NC, where I jumped out of perfectly good airplanes with the 82nd Airborne Division in my fearless days; Myrtle Beach, SC, where I spent many days on vacation; Charleston, SC, where we visited family friends on many occasions as a youth; Daytona Speedway, where I got to score Bobby Allison and Jeff Gordon on numerous occasions, etc. etc. etc. I still love my job. Did you see the profit Delta reported last week?

In a Pentagon briefing Wednesday, Gen. David Rodriguez claimed that the full hazmat suit – which Americans have come to know and love thanks to one Thomas Duncan – isn’t necessary for our troops, who will be instead equipped with gloves and masks to safeguard against the deadly virus. Only the finest for our heroes! “They don’t need the whole suit – as such – because they’re not going to be in contact with any of the people,” Gen. Rodriguez said in his briefing. The soldiers, who are from the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, are charged with building hospitals in West Africa. Anyone who believes these men aren't going to be exposed to ebola should get on a plane and go help them build building to be torn apart as soon as they leave.

The Parachute Regiment, colloquially known as the Paras, is the Airborne Infantry of the British Army. One battalion is permanently under the command of the Director Special Forces in the Special Forces Support Group. The other battalions are the parachute infantry component of the British Army's rapid response formation 16 Air Assault Brigade. It is the only line infantry regiment that has not been amalgamated with another unit since the end of the Second World War. Members of the Parachute Regiment are often colloquially known to the rest of the army and the British public as the "Paras". The Parachute Regiment was formed during the Second World War and eventually raised 17 battalions. In Europe, these battalions formed part of the 1st Airborne Division, the 6th Airborne Division and the 2nd Independent Parachute Brigade. Another three battalions served with the British Indian Army in India and Burma. The regiment took part in six major parachute assault operations in North Africa, Italy, Greece, France ...
Vote Lee Zeldin for Congress Nov. 4th -- NY's 1st Congressional District! The legacy of the American Paratrooper is one of honor, integrity, courage and impeccable character. It’s a lineage that is carried on today by young men and women who continue to train and prepare to jump behind enemy lines and engage the enemy. Such it is with Major Lee Zeldin, who currently serves in the U.S. Army Reserves and is a former 82nd Airborne Division paratrooper -- and a conservative State Senator in New York -- talk about being behind enemy lines! Lee is running for Congress in New York's District One -- Long Island. I had the pleasure of being with Lee at a local VFW Post -- a place where past, present, and future heroes gather. Let's load Lee Zeldin up for a new mission, and drop him in behind the lines of Capitol Hill to let him do as paratroopers have always done -- fight for America with honor and distinction for your future.

This new you tube should be on this PM, 14 Oct 14. If you want to help Keith be sure to act. The media need to do a story to get wide spread attention to this type of "justice". Leadership and Justice Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber Style Hi. My name is Richard H Oehler, a retired family doctor. October 12, 2014 Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber is now asking for our vote. He claims he has done a great deal to “fulfill the promise of Oregon for everyone.” He spent time investigating and then setting aside the execution of a confessed murderer, Gary Haugen. He stated the death penalty is cruel and inhumane treatment. Yet, our fair minded Governor stands idly by and ignores the incarceration of Keith McMullin for a crime he did not commit. The State asked for 50 years, a death sentence for a 45 year old man. Governor Kitzhaber is a medical doctor. As such he knows or should know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Keith McMullin is innocent. Our fair minded Governor, John Kitzhaber, has done nothing to see tha ...
The African Screaming Eagle Virus This is a re-post from September 30, 2014 after The Washington Times announced that the 101st Airborne was being deployed to fight Ebola in West Africa. At the time of my original article I had a strong sense Paul Harvey hadn’t finished The Rest of the Story about the 101st Airborne’s real mission, and it’s only getting stronger… You might be wondering why I would think there’s something else going on with this entire situation, and I don’t mean for this to be a criticism of the president – just an observation. I have watched every White House daily press briefing, and have studied the president in depth. He has a pattern of saying things to misdirect those he considers to be enemies. When President Obama makes broad or general claims about what something is or will be the opposite is often true, but these statements are made with such conviction that he’s rarely challenged by the media or his supporters. When it’s proven to be something other than t ...
Latino of the Day: J.R. Martinez Jose Rene Martinez was born June 14, 1983 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Maria Zavala. His two sisters, Consuelo and Anabel, were raised in El Salvador with his mother's family. He never met Anabel, who died as a young child. At nine years old, J.R. moved with his mother to Hope, Arkansas, where he lived until he was 17. He then moved to Dalton, Georgia, a place he proudly calls his hometown. J.R. always loved playing football and had aspirations of becoming a pro football player, even though he was injured his junior year playing with the Bobcats in Hope. During his senior year he played strong safety for the Dalton High School Catamounts and they went on to Georgia's State Championship. After high school, he joined the army. J.R. was proud to serve, as a way to give something back to a country that had already given so much to him and to his family. In September of 2002, J.R. underwent Basic and Advanced Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he gained skills as an 11-B I ...

U.S. MILITARY FACES NEW KIND OF THREAT WITH EBOLA "At Fort Campbell in Kentucky, spouses of U.S. soldiers headed to Liberia seem to be lingering just a bit longer than usual after pre-deployment briefings, hungry for information about Ebola. For these families, the virus is raising a different kind of anxiety than the one they have weathered during 13 years of ground war in Afghanistan and Iraq. They want to know how the military can keep soldiers safe from the epidemic, a new addition to the Army's long list of threats. "Ebola is a different problem set that the division hasn't (faced) before," said Major General Gary Volesky, who will soon head to Liberia along with soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division. There are already more than 350 U.S. troops on the ground in West Africa, mostly in Liberia, including a handful from the 101st. That number is set to grow exponentially in the coming weeks as the military races to expand Liberia's infrastructure so it can battle Ebola. The military has already stoo ...
