Today is Armed Forces Day, and while I personally think about and thank all the men and women that have, are, or will serve everyday, I will take the time now to publicly thank everyone, family, friends and people I will never meet for their selfless service and dedication to these United States of America. Above all, I put my greatest thanks in my Dad, John Marley, for his 21 years of service and dedication to the Army and this country- from being out in the field all the time, to deployments, to teaching ROTC, to switching from being field artillery guy with cool red socks to working for the Air Force in Colorado Springs... thank you for everything, and hopefully one day I can follow in your footsteps. Love you, Padre!
As I understand it, Armed Forces Day is for those who are presently serving, Veteran's Day is for those who have served and retired, and Memorial Day is for those who have died in defending our country. A Happy Armed Forces Day to all who are serving in the Army, Navy. Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, Space Command, Navy SEALS, Green Berets, National Guard and Central Intelligence Agency.
ANNUAL Armed Forces DAY CROSSBAND MILITARY/Amateur Radio COMMUNICATIONS TEST (10 MAY 2014) The Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard are co-sponsoring the annual military/Amateur Radio communications tests in celebration of the 64th Anniversary of Armed Forces Day (AFD). Although the actual Armed Forces Day is celebrated on Saturday, May 17, 2014, the AFD Military/Amateur Crossband Communications Test will be conducted 10 May 2014 to prevent conflict with the Dayton Hamvention (16-18 May 2014), which is the same weekend as the actual Armed Forces Day. The annual celebration features traditional military to amateur cross band communications SSB voice and Morse Code tests. These tests give Amateur Radio operators and Short Wave Listeners (SWL) an opportunity to demonstrate their individual technical skills, and to receive recognition from the appropriate military radio station for their proven expertise. QSL cards will be provided to those stations making contact with the military stations. P ...

Poppies need to be red with a black centre. For anyone needing some inspiration a pattern can be downloaded from www.tameside.gov.uk/culture or make up your own. You can post or hand in your poppies to Central Art Gallery, Old Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, OL6 7SG, before 14 June 2014. They will be on show in Victoria Park, Denton, when the borough celebrates Armed Forces Day on June 29. Cllr Jackie Lane, Tameside Council’s executive member for culture, said: “This is an and original and very colourful ways to show our appreciation for what the army, air force and navy have done for us over the years and continue to do for us. “Anyone can take part – there’s no quality control – and the end result should not only be stunning but also very poignant in the year we celebrate the centenary of the start of the First ...
From "American Minute" for May 19th: Army Day, Navy Day and Air Force Day were combined in 1949 to be Armed Forces Day, celebrated the 3RD SATURDAY IN MAY. Army Day formerly was the date the US entered World War I. Navy Day was President Theodore Roosevelt's birthday. Air Force Day was the day the War Department established a division of aeronautics. President Richard Nixon remarked on Armed Forces Day, MAY 19, 1973, at Norfolk Naval Base: “Men and women who wear the uniform of our country are supposed to salute the Commander in Chief...but on this day, I, as your Commander in Chief, salute you, each and every American who serves in our Army, our Navy, our Air Force, our Marine Corps, and our Coast Guard. Your courage, your steadfastness are the backbone of America's influence for peace around the world... We owe you...a debt of gratitude we can never fully repay... -to the more than 2 million men and women now serving in uniform; -to the millions of veterans who have returned to civilian life; -to tho ...

Armed Forces And Remembrance Day Yesterday was Nigerian Armed Forces and Remembrance Day.Let us look at the activities of Nigerian Armed Forces under Review. In Nigeria, Armed Forces Day, also known as Remembrance Day, is celebrated on 15 January. It was formally marked on 11 November of every year to coincide with the Remembrance Day (Poppy Day) for the World War II veterans in the British Commonwealth of Nations. But it was changed to 15 January of every year in Nigeria in commemoration of the surrender of Biafran troops to the Federal troops on 15 January 1970 thus signalling the end of the Nigerian Civil War. The day is marked by with a Remembrance Day parade at the Cenotaph in Abuja and in the 36 state capitals. The ceremony includes 21 gun salute, playing of the Last Post, a minute's silence, laying of wreaths and release of pigeons to symbolise peace. The Nigerian Legion is the Nigerian association of ex-servicemen, I.e former members of the Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force (although I have never ...

Great game in the Big House. UM-31...AFA-25. Never over until the end. Denard Robinson put on a show and saved the day for the Wolverines. Pre game activities were the best I have ever seen. It was Armed Forces Day and the University of Michigan put on an amazing show. There was a large military presence with the Air Force cadets and dozens of ROTC students. The gratitude showed by the crowd for what they do, what they will do and what they stand for was moving. During the national anthem a bald eagle flew into the stadium and circled the stands, finally landing on it's trainer's arm as the anthem ended. This was followed by a fly-over of three helicopters painted maize on the bottom with the large blue M. And just before kickoff here comes a Stealth Bomber flying over the 112,522 fans in attendance. Do we live in the greatest country ever? It's a rhetorical question.
Military Flag Protocol: There are also certain days when it is most appropriate to fly military flags on their own. Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day and Flag Day are among them. It is also appropriate to fly military flags on the anniversary day of the branch's establishment. For example, the Air Force's anniversary is September 18. From Your Friends At www.betterbuyflags
Happy Armed Forces Day to the brave men & women of the finest Army, Navy & Air Force in the world.
Happy Armed Forces Day to all my relatives in the UK
Well, I got my dates confused and thought tomorrow is Armed Forces Day. My belated salute to those who have served in the Armed Forces: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. We must remember that few people join the military in search of glory or to seek "action". Rather, they are most often ordinary citizens who feel they want to serve their relations in an extraordinary way. They may not always believe in the causes of those who order them into harm way, but they do believe in duty, honor and loyalty to their fellow citizens.
Didn't realize this was Armed Forces Day... so VERY proud of my brother, Garry Little who is a Lt Col in the Air Force and my two nephews, Ryan Little and Eric Little who are 2nd Lts in the Air Force. Thank you guys for your sacrifice and service!!!
Today is Armed Forces Day!!! Have you said thank you lately?? Thank you to my hubby and to all of the men and women out there who are protecting us and to those who gave their life for us! To all the branches, Coast Guard, Air Force, Navy, Army, Marines, National Guard and all Reservists, and ALL Active and Retired God Bless!
On this beautiful Armed Forces Day, I would like to Thank All of the Military - The Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, & Coast Guard for our Freedom & Safety!! Plus, for the most important, All of your sacrifices...Freedom isn't Free!!!
Today is Armed Forces Day. Let's honor all of those who have served their country valiantly and all of those who gave ultimate sacrifice, their life. I served 20 1/2 years in the Air Force without regret and I would do it all over again. Please keep those who are currently serving in harms way in your prayers. God Bless America!
Good morning everyone. Today is Armed Forces Day. This day is for those that are currently serving our country. Remember these folks have put their lives on hold and their lives on the line in order to protect this country and our way of life. Those serving in the Coast Guard, Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force deserve our respect. When you see "Old Glory" waving in the winds of freedom, that there are men and women serving all over the world to protect us and our way of life. I offer my heartfelt thanks to those that make the sacrifice. Enjoy your day and remember why you can.
Day 4 4AM Walking group: A Tremendous turn out for the Armed Forces Day walk- a -thon. We started at 0340 as we were going all the way to Indiana. Being the ranking veteran I took "point" and Cindy followed me. For you that don't know "point" means at the front or leading, it's a risk I take willingly if there is dog poop or broken glass I'm the one that "gets" it. As the walk progressed I started having "flashbacks" of my Navy Days, some good some not so good such as the time I ate a Chittlin' that was not properly prepared. To remind myself of some of the hardships I experienced I walked right through the water in the gutter instead of stepping over it. As we marched we tried singing all the Armed Forces songs I know the Navy and Marines', and parts of the Army and Air Force that we filled in with "dahs and Hums", I don't recollect the Coast Guard tune but I imagined one in thier honor. God Bless And PROTECT OUR Armed Forces Men and Women!
