TB Joshua hit by bribery claims Thursday 18th September , 2014 5:38 pm Investigative journalist and author Jacques Pauw has described the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) and “Prophet” TB Joshua as one of Africa’s most influential men, who tried to bribe him during an interview. A guesthouse under construction at the Lagos headquarters of the SCOAN collapsed on Friday. Three extra storeys were being added to the existing two of a guest house of the church compound, where visitors from abroad flock to stay. In a shock announcement on Tuesday night, South African President Jacob Zuma disclosed that 67 South Africans had died in the tragedy. The National Emergency Management Agency in Nigeria said the death toll stands at 80, while 131 survivors have been pulled from the rubble. There are mounting calls for someone to be held responsible for the deaths and all eyes are now on Joshua. But the charismatic preacher insists the collapse was the result of a planned attack on him. World News: South African deputy president tells of killings - JOHANNESBURG (AP) — Hecklers on Tuesday accused South African Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa of being a murderer for the police killings of several dozen people during labor unrest at platinum mine operations in 2012. Ramaphosa, a former union leader and businessman who became deputy president this year, expressed regret for the killings near a Lonmin mine, but denied any wrongdoing. At the time of the 2012 violence, Ramaphosa had a prominent role in the ruling African National Congress party and was a director and shareholder of the Lonmin mining company. He testified Tuesday before a judicial panel that is investigating the 2012 killings. Ramaphosa, a union leader during apartheid, became deputy president in May after the ANC was returned to power in elections. Ramaphosa is widely viewed as the favored candidate to succeed South African President Jacob Zuma, who was re-elected this year. Ramaphosa should be charged with murder because of ...

Zim bigger than Grace HARARE - It seems confirmed that President Robert Mugabe is going to boycott the EU-Africa summit set for Brussels, Belgium.Apparently, Mugabe is taking a “principled” stance because some African countries have been excluded from the meeting.South African President Jacob Zuma has also pointed out that the EU should not decide on the composition of the African delegation. “I thought the AU and EU are equal organisations representing two continents but there is not a single one of them who must decide for others.”But the Europeans have been “clever” enough to couch the meeting as the EU-Africa, and not the EU-AU summit. As such, the EU has given itself latitude to invite individual African countries of its choice, not necessarily all members of the AU.It did not invite Eritrea and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, both members of the AU, for unexplained reasons. But the major reason for Mugabe’s “principled” stance, is the exclusion of his wife, Grace. While Mugab ...
DEVELOPMENT POLICY EU-Africa summit to debate free trade EU and African leaders from 80 states are poised to meet in Brussels for a two-day summit as a deadline for tariff-free trade agreements draws near. Presidents Jacob Zuma and Robert Mugabe are staying away. Who will be coming, who will be staying at home? Which African heads of state have been invited and which ones will actually be attending are questions which have dominated media coverage in the run-up to the Africa-EU summit on Wednesday (02.04.2014) and Thursday (03.04.2014) in Brussels. Eritrea has not been invited because of grievous human rights violations. Zimbabwe's controversial leader Robert Mugabe was invited, but says he does not wish to attend because his wife has been denied a visa. South African President Jacob Zuma also announced he would also be staying away because of "other commitments." Pretoria refused to be drawn on whether Zuma's decision was taken in solidarity with Mugabe. Yet there is more to this fourth EU-Africa summit ...

The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon promised to do "everything possible" to improve the international response to the crisis. Zuma's Son Faces Probe over Fatal Crash The son of South African President Jacob Zuma is facing a police investigation after a road accident involving his luxury car left one woman dead, local media have reported. Duduzane Zuma, a businessman, crashed his Porsche into a minibus taxi just before midnight on February 1 in the suburb of plush Sandton, the Sunday Independent, the Sunday Times and Eyewitness News radio reported on Sunday. Police confirmed the investigation of manslaughter against the Porsche driver, but declined to name the person until charges are laid and he appears in court. The papers carried the story with Duduzane's photo on their websites. "There was an incident where a Porsche collided in the rear of a taxi in the dark during heavy rain," said Wayne Minnaar, the Johannesburg Metro Police spokesman. "The taxi overturned and one person died; two were injured," he told the AFP news agency. The dead woman was a 30-year-old Zimbabwean national, Phumzile Dube, who was buried in her home coun ...
US Ambassador to Zimbabwe Bruce Wharton, has highlighted the need for unconditional dialogue with Mr. Mugabe and his party, saying, that main political party leaders, President Robert Mugabe and former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, should Pursue Political Dialogue in a bid to urgently address the socio-economic and political crisis affecting the country and put the the economy back on track. The South African President Jacob Zuma, the (SADC) appointed mediator on the Zimbabwean dialogue, concluded his mission following last year’s elections but Mr. Tsvangirai says SADC and the African Union prematurely endorsed Zimbabwe’s election results, meaning Zimbabwe’s political problems have not been resolved by the polls. The former Prime Minister says that for a lasting solution, fresh polls should be held after key democratic reforms have been implemented, a view shared by Ambassador Wharton who said election reports compiled by several organizations after the polls are clear to Washington that there we ...

M. Ramphele Feb. 4 (GIN) – A possible challenge to the leadership of South African President Jacob Zuma was crushed this week with the news that activist/banker Mamphela Ramphele would not be the candidate for the majority white Democratic Alliance.    Dr. Ramphele, a co-founder of the black consciousness movement who bore two of Steve Biko's children, told the media: "I believed that we had the opportunity to transcend party politics and engage South Africans in a conversation about the future. The last week has demonstrated that, for some, this new way of thinking about our future will be hard to achieve right now … The time for this was not right."   "Did we rush in to it?” she asked rhetorically. “Yes, I am afraid so. Can opposition parties work together after the elections? Of course... We continue to engage with opposition parties. And I have spoken to the people across the country. The people’s trust in me will not waiver."   Simultaneously, at a media briefing in Johann ...

CONTROVERSIAL South African politician Julius Malema yesterday said he will accept funding from President Robert Mugabe if offered as he defended the 89- year-old ruler’s record. Malema sparked speculation in 2010 when he was pampered by top Zanu PF officials during a visit to Harare at a time he was engaged in running battles with South Africa’s ruling African National Congress. He met Mugabe at State House, a privilege that is extended to a few people. In the run -up to the July 31 elections, Malema was forced to deny reports that Zanu PF ministers were funding his Economic Freedom Front (EFF) to spite South African President Jacob Zuma. At the time, Zuma was vigorously pushing for electoral reforms in Zimbabwe that Mugabe was fiercely resisting. Yesterday Malema told journalists in Johannesburg he would have no problems receiving money from Africa’s longest serving ruler ahead of South Africa’s elections later this year. “We will never have a problem receiving money from president Mugabe. There goes South Africa. Joining the rest of corrupt Africa Its a long article, but worth reading Judicial corruption in South Africa nears breaking point As nation readies for first elections without Nelson Mandela, top prosecutors are attacked for letting officials get away with murder. Literally. Richard Mdluli, head of the crime intelligence section of the South African police, was first charged with murder, attempted murder, intimidation, and the kidnapping of a man who married his former lover. In one of South Africa's most violent townships, a peace arrives Six months later came money laundering charges, followed by charges of fraud, theft, and corruption. Then, in the midst of the brewing scandal, Mdluli wrote a letter to South African President Jacob Zuma and to his police bosses: “In the event that I come back to work, I will assist the President to succeed next year.” Mr. Zuma was facing re-election within his party. Charges against Mdluli were then summarily dropped by the prosecutor. Nor ...
South African President Jacob Zuma has released a new CD for his Election campaign, title 'Hambani niyozixhoma - Go hang yourselves'. Released by 999 studio.
South Africa unveiled its latest monument to Nelson Mandela, a new statue along a rural highway marking the spot where he was arrested 50 years ago for his struggle against apartheid. Mr Mandela, now 94, was arrested as a young liberation fighter on August 5, 1962, near the eastern town of Howick, just months after he founded the armed wing of the African National Congress (ANC). He had returned just a few weeks earlier from a trip across Africa drumming up support for the new Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK), or "Spear of the Nation". The sculpture is made up of 50 steel rods of between five and 10 metres high and when viewed from a certain angle, Mr Mandela's image come into focus. "The front of the sculpture is a portrait of Mandela, it has vertical bars which represent his imprisonment," said the monument's designer Marco Cianfanelli. "When you walk through the structure it radiates like a burst of light, which symbolises the political uprising of many people and solidarity." South African President Jacob Zuma, ...

South African President Jacob Zuma got booed at Mandela's funeral. explains what it means for the country.
A cluster of South African security ministers all but cleared South African President Jacob Zuma of abusing state resources for the upgrade of his private rural home, although concerns remain over the cost of the refurbishments. Public Works minister, Thulas Nxesi told a press conference that Zuma had not asked for the upgrades and allegations that the president had abused state resources were unfounded. A report published by the ministers, following allegations that costs for the upgrades were excessive, says R206 million ($20 million) was spent on the upgrades. Zuma has in recent weeks faced criticism over the lavish upgrades to his house, which include a swimming pool, which the government says can be turned into a water reservoir in case of a fire. PRETORIA, South Africa (AP) — A government investigation into the use of state resources to upgrade South African President Jacob Zuma's rural private home found some irregularities but excused the construction of features like a chicken run as being motivated by security concerns. The leader of the major opposition party in Parliament, Lindiwe Mazibuko, dubbed the report "a bungle" and accused the government of trying to "pull the wool over the public's eye." The government acknowledged it paid $21 million to upgrade the rural homestead but said it was all for security. The investigation was one of two probes conducted into allegations that state funds were used to pay for refurbishments, including a swimming pool, a shop and dwellings for relatives at Zuma's Nkandla homestead. A separate investigation was being conducted by the Public Protector Thuli Madonsela, whose position is the equivalent of that of an ombudsman. Her report is expected to be made public by mid-January. Public Works Minister Thula ...

In Death, as in Life, Truth About Mandela Overlooked Written by Alex Newman THE NEW AMERICAN With the widely anticipated passing of South African revolutionary leader Nelson Mandela late Thursday, December 5, presidents and dictators from around the world — as well as everyday people, and especially the press — are in mourning. Lost amid the tsunami of praise and adoration, almost canonization even according to some of his supporters, however, is the truth about the man himself, who was, after all, still just a man.
